I’m having lunch with an old professor of mine from Curry next week. I’m really stoked about it, too. It’s been 10 years since I’ve seen him, and I’m looking forward to catching up.
Prof. P was my religion/philosophy professor. A wise man, patient teacher, cherished voice of sanity in a time of utter chaos. Kudos, Prof. P. See you at Rock Bottom.
I’m studying for my GRE so I can complete my application for grad school. In case I forgot to mention it: I friggin hate algebra. Hated it in high school (which is the last time I took it), hate it now.
That side of the brain which fires when trying to process algebraic equations has long been dormant in me. {Sigh}.
Screw it. I’m going for an English degree anyway.
X + Y - Z = bite me. Math should = numbers, not letters.
So the popenazi hates Harry Potter. Surprise.
In a letter dated March 7, 2003, then-Cardinal Ratzinger thanked Kuby for her "instructive" book Harry Potter - gut oder böse (Harry Potter- good or evil?), in which Kuby says the Potter books corrupt the hearts of the young, preventing them from developing a properly ordered sense of good and evil, thus harming their relationship with God while that relationship is still in its infancy.
"It is good, that you enlighten people about Harry Potter, because those are subtle seductions, which act unnoticed and by this deeply distort Christianity in the soul, before it can grow properly," wrote Cardinal Ratzinger.
Were these people born old? Were they ever kids? I have to wonder if the popenazi would be as quick to condemn C.S. Lewis? The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe? Oh my. Is it the magic he takes issue with? Because I’ve read the Potter books, and I think Rowling does a fantastic job of drawing a line between good and evil. Plus, it’s, you know, fiction. It provides entertainment and it encourages reading, which is never a bad thing.
Perhaps if the popenazi spent less time bitching about a children’s book and more time cleaning up his own backyard, we wouldn’t have to worry about babies being raped and churches closing down.
I wonder if he’ll preach on the Potter books as he leads the congregation in the ceremonial march, goosestep, walk around the ovens, death camp, Square.
